In our series of Frequently Asked Questions, one of the first things people ask is about the weight of a cast iron bath. And rightly so, they are very heavy if you try to lift them on your own.
As long as the building you are purchasing the bath for is structurally sound and meets building regulations, a cast iron bath will not be too heavy for the floor. Houses are built to withstand just such eventualities. Providing you don't have a really serous case of rotten floor boards, your home will be strong enough to hold the weight of your cast iron bath filled with water and a person or two.
Many of our baths (filled weight) are equivalent to having around 5 people stood in the bathroom at any given point. Just like being in the kitchen at a party! We have never had a case where the floor has collapsed purely under the weight of our baths. But if you are in any way unsure about the age and quality of the flooring in a building you are unsure, you may be best contacting a surveyor, even if you are only organizing a party.
